EDUCATION

The most important goal in our preschool classrooms is for teachers to help children become self-confident, inquisitive, and enthusiastic learners. We do this by getting to know each child and their family. By building this relationship, teachers are better able to support children’s learning. Parents and teachers work together in discovering ways to develop each child’s unique personality, their interests and skills. Children are encouraged to be active and creative as they explore and experiment within a well-planned curriculum. Our curriculum identifies goals in all areas of child development:

• Social: to help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.
• Emotional: to help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life.
• Cognitive: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations and feelings.
• Physical: to help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.
• Language: to help children understand and communicate through words, spoken and written. As children develop language skills they are better able to build relationships with adults and other children. They can explore and ask questions to further their understanding of the world. Teachers plan language and literacy activities and provide rich materials to develop pre-reading skills.

Serving Children with Special Needs

MCCC serves children of all abilities. Children are screened for developmental milestones and together with families; teachers determine whether a child needs extra support from our program partners in the Early Childhood Special Education field. Teachers, parents and Early Childhood Special Education professionals work collaboratively to provide the best services for children with disabilities.
