SKAMANIA CENTER
Welcome to Skamania County Head Start and ECEAP! Since our beginning over twenty years ago, our center has been located in North Bonneville and Skamania School, as well as in Stevenson. We are now housed in the former Early Learning Center in Stevenson at 700 SW Rock Creek Drive. We have both an ECEAP program (funded by Washington State dollars) and a Head Start program (funded by federal dollars), the content of both is very much the same. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings, teachers hop on the bus and drive east to pick up children from Home Valley, Carson, the Stabler-Hemlock area and Stevenson before returning to our beautiful site the Rock Creek Fairgrounds. There the children are greeted by the 2 ECEAP teachers and enjoy a morning filled with fun and friends and learning before being returned home. Class time is from 8:30 until 12:30 each day. On Wednesday afternoons and Thursday and Friday mornings, the bus heads west to North Bonneville to pick up the students living there and to meet students transported by their parents from Skamania and points west, then goes back to and across the Bridge of the Gods to pick up students living in or transported to Cascade Locks, OR. Currently, a few children from west Stevenson are also picked up before the bus returns to the center to the 2 Head Start teachers. Class time is from 12:00 until 3:30 on Wednesdays and from 8:30 to 12:30 the rest of the week. The bus driver and cook/ bus monitor serve as additional teachers for both classrooms. Our versatile staff is proud to serve students from two states, eight communities, and five public school districts.
